Welcome
Welcome to the Center for World Rhythms and Movement and our Cultural Music and Movement Community.
If you have not taken classes with us before, please plan to show up a few minutes early for your first class so you can fill out a release form and give us your contact information. You will be informed of the Center's class activities and other related events in our area or region.
There is a Yahoo Group where you can get additional information; class cancellations due to weather, chat with your fellow students or ask your instructors questions.
Dance and Movement Classes
Please wear comfortable clothing that you can effortlessly move and stretch in.
Bring a hip scarf for Tribal Dance if you have one. A limited number can be provided if you don’t.
Your eighth Tribal class of the series will be a hafla, an informal performance where you can learn the intricacies of Tribal costuming and invite your friends and family to show them what you have learned. Participation in the hafla is fun, but not mandatory if performance is not your goal.
Each class has a curriculum that is designed to allow those who learn quickly to move on to the next level of classes, yet easy enough to grasp for those who learn at a slower pace. We ask however, that you commit to attending as many of the classes as possible in the series so you don’t fall behind. If you have to miss a class, please see your instructor to show you what you missed so you can practice at home and you will not interrupt the flow of the proceeding classes.
Musicians
Please bring your drum or melodic instrument if you have one. We do have a few additional drums to loan for classes.
If you decide you would like to purchase an instrument, please contact David (our distributor for Mideast Music) at David.Johnson@fuse.net.
He can provide instruments at a reduced cost.
Mission
Our goal is to provide quality Cultural Music and Movement instruction, offer special events and workshops and support each other as artists and unique individuals. We are a diverse group with many different backgrounds and belief systems and we ask that you respect and honor those differences with acceptance and support.
Please contact us via email, the Yahoo Group or phone if you need additional information
